UNDERSTANDING HOW SKIN CHANGES OVER TIME
Lipids in the stratum corneum play an essential role in maintaining the skin barrier. Among them, ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids help maintain barrier cohesion and limit water loss.
Over time, the amount and organization of these lipids can gradually change. Sebum production may also decrease, weakening the hydrolipidic film naturally present on the skin’s surface.
When the barrier is compromised, water can escape more easily. Skin may then become drier, rougher and less comfortable.
